SAN FRANCISCO, February 24, 2025― Garth Hire has joined Duane Morris LLP as a partner in the firm’s Trial Practice Group in its San Francisco office. Prior to joining Duane Morris, Hire was an Assistant United States Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern and Central Districts of California.

As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Hire investigated and prosecuted matters involving securities and investment fraud, insider trading, financial institution failure, FCPA violations, bank and wire fraud, corporate insider honest services fraud, criminal trade secret theft, large scale government program fraud and cryptocurrency money laundering. While chief of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Oakland, California, he supervised a team of Assistant United States Attorneys and staff handling investigations and prosecutions of matters involving wire and bank fraud, government program fraud, trade secret theft, computer hacking and data theft, economic espionage, environmental crimes, public corruption, tax evasion, money laundering, murder, racketeering, drug trafficking and sex crimes. Hire was also lead counsel on the investigation and prosecutions relating to the infiltration of the Oakland International Airport by large-scale drug trafficking organizations using airport insiders to circumvent security to smuggle narcotics throughout the U.S. As part of the Organized Crime Strike Force, he investigated and prosecuted large scale criminal enterprises. While Hire was chief of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, he supervised a team of Assistant United States Attorneys and staff handling the investigation and prosecution of international drug trafficking organizations based in Mexico, Central America and Asia. Hire was lead counsel in nine federal criminal jury trials, including securities fraud and insider trading, and argued three appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
